The Future of Self Advocacy and Zoom

We are seeing exponential growth of forums that are accessible to people with Intellectual Disability.  These forums join in a common spirit that has always been part of the People First and Self Advocacy movement.  We will gather every 3 months to assess our progress in a 12 hour meeting.  We are asking people to make 2 minute videos like the ones below. We have found this to be the best way to track our progress.

Covid has changed everything

Due to the Covid 19 virus, the Human Services profession was forced to use technology to reach out to people isolated in their homes.  As a result of this people with intellectual disability have finally been included in this essential part of our modern society.

Spontaneous efforts began all over the world. These efforts are all Free, Safe and Fun. They range from Dance parties to training formats and from game shows to movie nights.  People are gathering together in the way they would at home. in friendly conversations regardless of the thousands of miles between them. They sit face to face and talk as though they were all in the same room.  It is a new and exciting way for people to make friends and improve their social skills.

We encourage new efforts and will help you as your build your on-line communities. We work together from locations around the world. We help because we all have disability and we know how important this has been to us. Everything we do is Free Safe and Fun.

What can you do ?

We focus on video because this is the most accessible format for people with Intellectual Disability.  We recognize the need to be accessible to the blind and deaf community as well.
